Prep basketball Loggers move step closer to title BUTTE FALLS -- Butte Falls took another step toward the Skyline A League Southern Division boys title Friday night with a 63-54 win over North Lake. The host Loggers (13-10, 9-2 Sky A) can clinch the championship tonight when they travel to New Hope Christian. Nipping at the Loggers' heels in second place are Paisley (9-3 Sky A) and Brighton Academy (8-3 Sky A). Despite New Hope Christian's poor league mark, Butte Falls coach Mike Harrington said his team will play tonight's tilt as if they were tied with New Hope. "We're taking it very seriously, even though they're well out of the playoff race," Harrington said of tonight's game, which will be the Loggers' fourth in five nights. Junior Dusty Harrington had 18 points and six assists to pace Butte Falls, while junior Jarred Dunlap added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior post Scott Nelson chipped in nine rebounds and 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. The Loggers led throughout the contest, clinching the win with a 13-for-18 effort at the foul line in the fourth quarter. Dusty Robey paced North Lake with a game-high 20 points. The Broncos led 24-19 at halftime, then broke the game open behind Cooper's play by outscoring Prospect 21-5 in the third quarter. Prospect (8-13, 3-8 Sky A) was hampered because sophomore point guard Donnie Andresen was serving a one-game suspension. Girls PROSPECT 45, PAISLEY 18 -- At Prospect, a smothering zone defense by Prospect limited Paisley to three field goals as the Cougars remained in contention for the Skyline A League Southern Division title. The Cougars (16-4, 10-1 Sky A) play North Lake today at Silver Lake with the division championship on the line. North Lake (10-1 Sky A) handed Prospect its only division loss of the season. Both teams will advance to the district tournament next Friday and Saturday at Scenic Middle School in Central Point. Prospect junior forward Liz Lewis tallied 11 of Prospect's 15 second-quarter points when the Cougars didn't allow Paisley to score. Lewis ended with a game-high 14 points.
