Ashland man in jail after standoff Jun 12, 2004 12:00 AM A A An Ashland man is in Jackson Count Jail this weekend following — an armed standoff with police Friday night. — Harvey Ellis, 53, has been charged with four counts of — menacing stemming from the late-night incident, during which he held police — at bay for about two hours. No one was harmed. — Police were called to the home of Harvey Ellis, 53, in — the 700 block of B Street at about 9 p.m. after receiving a call of a — domestic dispute at the home. Neighbors had heard a loud argument in the — home and alerted police. — Once on the scene, Ashland police were threatened by an — intoxicated Ellis, who then barricaded himself in his attic where several — guns were stored. — According to Sgt. Bob Smith, once police arrived on the — scene, they determined what action should be taken. He said several more — officers were called to the scene and Ellis came out of his home after — approximately two hours of negotiation. — Sgt. Teresa Selby said when police arrived at the scene, — they were met by a "very agitated man" who threatened to shoot police — if they entered his home. Police with rifles and non-lethal weapons surrounded — the home. — Police then evacuated neighbors living in the vicinity — of the home and set up a perimeter around the home. Contact was made with — Ellis by phone and he was eventually talked into surrendering. — He was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. and charged — with four counts of menacing.
