Eagle Point squeaks past North Valley EAGLE POINT � It was far from a work of art, but considering the kind of season Eagle Point has had, the Eagles will take their 35-33 non-conference girls basketball win over North Valley. On the heels of a 72-23 loss Friday night, the Eagles (2-5) faced North Valley for the second time this season. Eagle Point jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the first half as Jenna Bilden scored eight of her 11 points, including two 3-pointers. But when the fourth quarter rolled around, the Eagles were once again plagued by poor free throw shooting, connecting on 1 of 10 attempts at the charity stripe. "We were up by seven or eight points when we went into our delay game with three minutes to go and they kept fouling us," said Eagle Point coach Tim Rouhier. "We were 4 of 9 from the 3-point line; we might as well have backed up to shoot our free throws from there." North Valley had the ball and a chance to tie or win in the final 10 seconds but failed to score. "The only thing that saved us was that we were defending them well," Rouhier said. "They ran an inbounds play and tried to run a back-pick, but they didn�t get a very good look at the basket." Danielle Rouhier had six steals for the Eagles, who return to Southern Oregon Conference play Tuesday at Roseburg. The Eagles will be without post Lindsey Trautman, who injured her ankle on Friday. "It goes from a struggle to being a battle," Rouhier said. "We�ll hang in there and keep practicing." Megan Coston led North Valley with 11 points. NORTH VALLEY (33) � M.Coston 11, Enoch 6, W. Lauren Parrish had 20 points and Tiffany Cummings added 14 to pace Marshfield, which outscored Grants Pass 31-13 in the first half. Mazama jumped out to an 18-1 lead after one quarter and led 35-10 at the half. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 55, ROGUE RIVER 52 OT � At Cave Junction, tournament most valuable player Kelly Clarke scored 16 points as Cascade Christian won the championship of the Illinois Valley Holiday event. Clarke scored 44 points in two games for the Challengers, who improved to 6-2. After experiencing a drought through parts of the third and fourth quarters, Cascade Christian pulled away in the overtime. It scored 10 points in the five-minute extra period versus only six in the eight-minute fourth quarter. Janelle Conley added 10 points for the Challengers. Rogue River got 17 points from Bobbie Wright, 15 from Laura Lucas and 12 from Rachelle Trout. Hannah Gettman joined teammate Clarke on the all-tournament team. Smeltz was pressed into the lineup while Dunlap attended a funeral. Krystle Rowley led the Loggers with nine points. PROSPECT 58, MITCHELL 18 � At Silver Lake, Prospect shut out Mitchell in the final quarter of the third-place game of the North Lake Holiday Classic as the Loggerettes finished the game with three players on the floor. Mindy Anderson injured a knee late in the third quarter and three more Mitchell players fouled out in the fourth quarter. Sarah Gordon scored 17 points to lead the Cougars (6-2), while Lindsey Acrey added 14 points. Gordon was named to the all-tournament team. Acrey, a 5-foot-3 senior post had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. She hit 4 of 7 3-point goals to go with 3 of 4 on Friday. Acrey and Addie Stockebrand scored seven points each as Prospect outscored Mitchell 23-5 in the third quarter.
