Twenty-three organizations in Southern Oregon received grants ranging in size from $3,500 to $50,000, according to an OCF news release this morning. A total of $473,057 was awarded in Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties. Kids Unlimited's grant is the first of potentially three years of support to provide tutoring in reading and/or math to children in first through sixth grades in after-school programs at five high-poverty elementary schools in the Medford School District. The Maslow Project will use the first of potentially two years of support to sustain services to homeless youth and families. Two organizations, The ARC of Jackson County and Living Opportunities, received grants to assist people with intellectual and development disabilities. Medford’s Kid Time Discovery Experience will devote $30,000 to daily preschool classes for at-risk children. The Ashland Art Center’s grant of $25,000 is earmarked for hiring a development coordinator to enhance fundraising in support of community art education classes and related services. The Evans Valley Community Association in Rogue River received $5,000 to help transform a 90-year-old former school building into a community center. The Oregon Community Foundation has two grant application deadlines each year for its Community Grants program and the next one is July 15. Other awards in Jackson County include: • CASA of Jackson County, Medford, $20,000, operational support; • Center for NonProfit Legal Services, Medford, $20,000, operational support; • Family Nurturing Center, Medford, $30,000, to launch a relief nursery in Josephine County; • Gold Hill Whitewater Center, Gold Hill, $20,000, to build a natural whitewater park at Ti'lomikh Falls; • Greater Applegate Community Development Corporation, Applegate, $10,000, to rehabilitate a 40-year-old playground at Cantrall-Buckley Park; • Kid Time! Discovery Experience, $30,000, operational support; • Southern Oregon Child and Family Council, Central Point, $15,000, for the Listo Family Literacy Program; • Southern Oregon Goodwill Industries, $20,000, to implement a Digital Literacy Project; • Southern Oregon Historical Society, $15,000, to help hire a development director.
