Several groups have promised to deliver food to Caring Friends on the day before Thanksgiving, but organizer Cori Thye-Couch said she is still in need of turkeys and other items such as clothes that will go to needy people. The Thanksgiving dinner will be served between noon and 4 p.m. Thursday at the National Guard Armory. Donations for the dinner may be dropped off at the armory starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Turkeys may be dropped off beforehand at O’Ryan’s Irish Pub, where they will be stored until the cooking begins. O’Ryan’s is at 137 E. Main St. In past years, the pub has received more than 100 donated turkeys, but it has just one so far this year. Other items that are needed include onions, canned green beans and corn, celery, spinach, aluminum roasting pans, marshmallows, coffee, tea, juice, canned and frozen cranberries and desserts. Several local businesses and residents have pledged to deliver hams, dairy products, potatoes and winter squash, butter, gravy, bread and rolls, pies and brown sugar, Thye-Couch said. Money donated to Caring Friends will be used to cover the costs of buying needed food for the dinner. Those wishing to donate may write to Caring Friends, P.O. Box 3051, Ashland, OR 97520. Volunteer drivers will shuttle hot dinners to the home-bound in and around Ashland Thursday. Those who want a free meal delivered can call 482-4414 that day. Those wishing to donate food or volunteer to serve at the dinner may call Thye-Couch at 245-6980. Persons wishing to donate clothing to be distributed to the needy may call 535-3983.
