Spartans edge Quake in playoff opener Feb 29, 2012 12:00 AM A A Joey White tallied the game-winner with just one second remaining as the Southern Oregon Spartans rallied for a 7-6 victory against the Yellowstone Quake in the opening round of the NORPAC hockey playoffs Tuesday at The RRRink. The teams will play the second game in the best-of-5 series at 7:05 tonight at The RRRink. White scored the decisive goal on assists from Luke Nickels and Mike Leskun. Anthony Galio's goal at 18:12 of the final period pulled the Spartans into a 6-all tie. The game was tied 3-3 after two periods. Nickels and Tim Talty each scored earlier in the third to give Southern Oregon a one goal lead at the time in the period. But Yellowstone answered with consecutive goals to go ahead 6-5 at 17:47. Alex O'Leary and Leskun accounted goals in the opening period, which ended in a 2-all tie. Talty's unassisted goal gave the Spartans a 3-2 advantage but Drew Parus knotted the score for Yellowstone with a goal late in the second period. Zach Woodman recorded 25 saves in net for the Spartans, while Yellowstone goalie Dom DeGuiseppi faced 38 shots. Yellowstone 2 1 3 — 6 Southern Oregon 2 1 4 — 7
