ROARING CAMP AT ARMORY IS FAIR ATTRACTION In keeping with the program to be given at the fair this year, which consists of bronco busting, steer roping, wild horse races and other frontier events, the downtown entertainment at night, besides the fair exhibit and merchants carnival in the Davis block on Central avenue, will be a reproduction of "Roaring Camp" at the Seventh Company armory on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. The old time mining camp with its gambling den, the notorious Red Dog saloon and O. K. restaurant and dance hall will be reproduced true to life, both in appearance and activities. The Roaring Camp celebration has been put on in the past each year by the town of Gold Hill, and has been a big drawing feature, not only to the old-timers, who attend to again witness the bygone days of the western mining camp, but the younger element has been equally attracted to view for the first time the gambling devices of the old days, now forever banished. In this connection, it may be of interest to many to learn that in not a state of the union or in Alaska, is open gambling now permitted with the roulette wheel, faro, twenty-one, three card monte, craps, etc. In very recent years the last of the states banished all such forms of gambling, in many places the occasion being celebrated by bonfires of the gambling devices. Some of the old timers familiar with the early day gambling contrivances have been engaged to operate and explain the various devices, which will be on exhibition, using Roaring Camp phony money for the purpose, which will also be used in the dancing, meals at the restaurant and "drinks" at the Red Dog saloon. A large orchestra has been employed for the ball room, which will do full credit to the spirit of the occasion in the manner of dress and character of music furnished. No admission fee will be charged, but those taking part in the dancing will be charged 10 cents, Roaring Camp coin.
