North Lake runs past Prospect SILVER LAKE Prospect could never quite make up a big first-half deficit to North Lake and suffered its first Skyline A South Division girls basketball defeat Saturday. The 54-50 loss dropped Prospect (11-3, 5-1 Sky A) into a division three-way first-place tie with North Lake and Butte Falls after the conclusion of the first-round of league play. The Cowboys hit their first four shots and jumped out to a 9-2 lead en route to a 22-point advantage in the first half. "You dont win many games when you get behind by 22," Prospect coach Don Alexander said. "Its a long road back." The closest the Cougars got was to within three points with five seconds remaining in the game, but North Lakes Gracie Warmington connected on the second of two free throws to give the Cowboys the final margin of victory. North Lake had little difficulty scoring against Prospects pressing defense from the start. "Our zone press was very ineffective," said Alexander. "We werent getting turnovers off our press like we usually do. We switched to a full-court man-to-man and that got us more involved with what was going on." Addie Stockebrand paced Prospect with 17 points. Stockebrand capitalized at the line by hitting 11-of-16 free throws. She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Hiliary Lewis turned in her best performance of the season for the Cougars with 11 points and seven rebounds. North Lake was sparked by senior center Anna Castillo, who provided a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds. Post Stephanie Schmidt helped the Cowboys to a 33-29 rebounding advantage with 14 boards. "We didnt shoot the ball very good in the first half and they just plain outplayed us," said Alexander. "In the second half we started hustling and made a good comeback." PROSPECT (50) Gordon 11, Stockebrand 17, Wood 1, Tallman 7, Acrey 3, Lewis 11, Mueller 0, Shields 0. Totals: 15 19-31 50.
