Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 24, 2006 Since You Asked Anxiously awaiting Wal-Mart When are they going to start construction on the new Wal-Mart at Eagle Point? There is no activity at the site yet. We are anxious to see it built. — Pat, Shady Cove We ran a story on April 2 detailing the delays in building out there, but we’re happy to repeat it for you — it’s good news for consumers out your way who want more shopping options closer to home. The 184,719-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter has been held back because it’s part of a larger 25-acre business park development that has had some permit issues. Part of the land includes a wetland, so the developers have had to acquire the proper permits to pave over it. That takes time. Advertisement Of course, these days they don’t just let you pave over a wetland. Part of the plan includes restoration and improvement to a wetland near Truax and Newland roads. The developers needed to get the official OK from state and federal agencies before proceeding. For our story a couple weeks ago, Eagle Point City Planner Bunny Lincoln said the Wal-Mart will open next spring instead of this year. Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jennifer Holder says once Hannon Road is realigned and store construction begins, the new Wal-Mart will be up in seven months.
