It’s been many things but now the building is a bank. — Georgia Bigelow, Medford You’re right, Georgia, there was a burger joint at 600 Biddle Road in the mid- to late-1980s. But you’re wrong about it being an In-N-Out. Before there was a Schlotzky’s, there was Hot ‘N Now, a chain restaurant that served up burgers for locals. A directory of local business dated 1996 shows Hot ‘N Now on the list. After Hot ‘N Now, Schlotzky's appeared to be a restaurant concept that had some legs. The chain briefly boasted 150 locations, but went bankrupt in January 2004. Washington Federal currently has a branch at 600 Biddle Road. As to the pizza parlor, you must be thinking of Pietro’s Pizza at 535 Stevens that burned down in 1993. We realize you’re probably thinking that your memory isn’t all the good, Georgia, but just to reassure you, we had a similar question asked of us back in 2009, when a reader swore that an In-N-Out was located at 600 Biddle Road. In-N-Out, the popular hamburger chain that started in Southern California, is planning to build a restaurant on the north side of the Rogue Valley Mall at the site of a recently demolished Shell service station. In-N-Out’s application calls for a 3,750-square-foot building with 51 parking spaces that is similar in style to its other restaurants, featuring white stucco, a red tile roof and its logo. The In-N-Out franchise would be the first location in Oregon. The closest location to Jackson County is in Redding, Calif. In-N-Out has 303 locations in California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Texas. Representatives from In-N-Out said they didn’t open a location in Oregon because of supply chain issues. Now the company has set up a distribution facility in Northern California that will serve Medford. In-N-Out officials have said the Medford location could be the first of many in Oregon.
