AllCare offers free smoke masks Monday

AllCare Health will give out free face masks to protect people from smoke as local wildfires continue to affect air quality. The masks will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at AllCare’s Medford office, 3629 Aviation Way, and at its Grants Pass office, 1701 N.E. Seventh St. Each person can have up to two masks while supplies last. The N-95 rated protective masks offer some protection against smoke and ultra-fine particles, AllCare officials said. AllCare urges people to stay indoors as much as possible during periods of poor air quality. People with lung or heart diseases, such as congestive heart failure, angina, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema and asthma are at a higher risk of health problems from smoke. Seniors and children are also more at risk for health problems when exposed to dangerous smoke, according to AllCare. To check current air quality levels, see oraqi.deq.state.or.us/home/map.
