Since You Asked: Commercial center destined for former freeway exit Sunday Apr 2, 2017 at 12:01 AM Can you tell me what happened to the property that was marked for sale by the Oregon Department of Transportation after the south Medford freeway exit was moved down the road? — Clark J., Medford   When you are keeping one eye on the traffic cameras, it's hard to see how much land was hidden behind the barrier where Stewart Avenue terminates at Barnett Road. The 5.72 acres went on the market a couple of years back when the exit was moved. But to the discerning eyes, the triangular parcel, bounded by Interstate 5, the Winco Shopping Center, and accessed off Barnett Road, has a lot of potential. Murphy Family LLC, led by local contractor and developer Reid Murphy, acquired the land from the state in May of 2016 for $1.6 million. The intersection has changed greatly since the interchange moved, with Del Taco replacing a gas station on the southwest corner of the intersection. Murphy has developed several local commercial centers, including McAndrews Marketplace. He plans to begin development of the property in coming months in preparation for a commercial center.
