Most recently he describes watching the television coverage of the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11 and that he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating the destruction. "There were people over in New Jersey that were watching it, a heavy Arab population, that were cheering as the buildings came down." Well, that is a lie, and Donald Trump is a liar. There are no press reports or video coverage of any such event. (There was widespread rebroadcasting of demonstrations that would fit that description, but they occurred in the Palestinian Territories — somewhat removed from the Garden State.) Sadly, this is a frequent pattern with Donald Trump — say something outrageous, attack when questioned about the truth of his statements, and when caught in a lie, backtrack or claim he was misunderstood. He is unfit to be commander in chief of our armed forces and president of the United States. But he will continue to lie about issues that are important to the American people, because that's what liars do. David Eisenberg Medford A political agenda Since your publication chose to put the AP story "Most GOP hopefuls flunk" and list it as an AP "Fact Check," I would like to bring us back to real science, and out of politics. This article pushed a political agenda based on "eight climate and biological scientists'" grading of political candidates' climate science knowledge, based on their self-conceived criteria. We have no way of knowing the credentials of these so called "experts." The global warming advocates now call their movement "climate change," primarily because the earth has not been warming for over 18 years. This data is based on the only accurate measurement by satellite. If global warming is real, then why don't Patrick Moore (co-founder of Greenpeace), John Coleman (co-founder of The Weather Channel), and Ivar Giaever (Nobel laureate) agree to its validity? If you truly want to the facts, Google "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and watch this English exposé of the non-politically driven science. This phony science started politically as an agenda of the UN's IPCC (Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change), and most (if not all) of their predictions have not come to pass. Jeff Gutting Jacksonville Living Americans, not boots Most of my friends have endured my past rants over political language used. For example, my head explodes every time someone says, “They (the troops) gave their life for their country.” No, they did not. Their lives and futures were taken far too soon from them in various brutal and violent ways. Lately I have endured our leaders talk about needing “boots on the ground.” I hate the euphemistic world of most leaders. For every two boots on the ground we are sending a flesh-and-blood American young man or woman inside those boots. We do not kill boots, we do not grieve boots lost. We grieve the loss of our countrymen and women who are killed, or maimed in body and/or mind. If we must send our youth to war, at least have the courage to call them what they are: valuable, living, loved Americans, not boots. Larry Slessler Medford If not a rifle, then ... Patti Morey (Nov. 24) writes, "... it grieves my heart that Ashland should wish to reinstall a bronze statue of a man holding a rifle in the Plaza." One can safely assume that this pioneer was not holding people hostage with his flintlock but rather more inclined to shoot a wild turkey to feed his family and settle the area. If indeed we are to alter history to meet our current lifestyles here in the Rogue Valley, why not replace his rifle with: a chainsaw a leaf blower a shovel a bathroom plunger a cup of coffee a joint, or a hookah filled with Ashland's flavorful lithiated water.
