Central Point man dies in pickup crash SAMS VALLEY -- A 35-year-old Central Point man is dead after he drove his pickup truck off the road and into a power pole late Sunday. Marshall Scott Simpson was dead before paramedics arrived at the scene of the 10:25 p.m. accident, according to Oregon State Police. The accident knocked out power to just over 100 homes along Ramsey, Hall and Holcomb Springs roads. Crews restored electricity by 5 a.m. Monday. Simpson was driving a 1979 Chevrolet pickup south along Ramsey Road just north of Sams Valley Highway 234. He drove off the road onto the right shoulder, and the pickup struck the power pole, according to OSP. The pickup turned onto its left side and continued moving, running through a fence. Simpson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown partially out of the truck. He suffered massive head injuries. Police did not know Monday whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
