Frederick, a 6-foot, 205-pound third baseman, hit .481, drove in 30 runs and scored 26 more to help lead the Chieftains to a three-way tie for second place in the conference with a 14-7 league mark and 15-11 overall record. Phoenix and North Valley also posted 14-7 Skyline marks. "He’s a quality baseball player, there’s no doubt about that," said Rogue River head coach John White. Also earning repeat spots on the first team were catcher Andrew Saeman and utility player Geoff Phelps of North Valley and Henley shortstop B.J. Holloway, who was also voted player of the year. Henley’s Joe Tacchini was named coach of the year for the second time in three years as the Hornets (26-3) finished 18-3 in Skyline play and won their fifth state championship in baseball. The junior stole 27 bases, hit .330 with 26 runs and turned away numerous base hits with his instinctive play in the field. Phoenix juniors Brenton Ferguson (infield) and Chad Walker (designated hitter) were named to the first team, which also featured North Valley’s Drew DeChenne and Josh Shipley, Mazama’s Aaron Larsen and Henley’s Bryn Card and Kelly Shannon.
