Bakke sixth in junior nationals DENTON, Texas University of Oregon freshman Nick Bakke finished sixth in the javelin competition Friday at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships. The Ashland High graduate threw the javelin 193 feet, 4 inches, his second best throw of the year. During the collegiate season, the former prep state runner-up competed unattached to adjust to the collegiate level. His season best of 198-3 was in the Oregon Invitational. "Nick had a solid day, although I think he was expecting more," Oregon assistant coach Bill Lawson said. "He had a nice throw past 200 feet in warm-ups that would have won, but still he was right there in the hunt for a top-three spot." University of Southern Utahs Bradley Wyatt won the event with a throw of 204-1.
