Wilson wins unanimous decision Mar 17, 2013 12:00 AM A A CANYONVILLE — Mike Wilson ran his professional boxing record to 9-0 with a unanimous decision over Rayford Johnson at Seven Feathers Casino Resort Saturday. Wilson, from Central Point, overcame a head butt that opened a cut over his left eye just 30 seconds in and won each round of the cruiserweight fight decisively. He was a 60-54 victor on each of the three judges cards. Johnson, from Longview, Texas, dropped to 7-9. With a four-inch height advantage, Wilson was able to keep Johnson at bay with jabs for most of the six rounds. "He had a lot of head movement, and that put me off a little bit," said Wilson. "My punches were coming up just short." With a big lead, Wilson expected a desperate Johnson to intensify his approach in the final round, and that's what happened. "He ended up catching me with a good shot about midway through the round," said Wilson. "We still had some time to go. I was buzzed pretty good." When Wilson got good shots on Johnson, he said, his opponent would tie him up. "So I really didn't get a chance to close him out," said Wilson.
