Ashland homeless warming shelter cold

An extreme weather warming center will open at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, for anyone who needs to get out of the cold. Doors will close at 9:30 p.m., and guests can stay until around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The shelter will also be open Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St. Doors will close at 9:30 p.m. Pets and children are welcome. Sleeping is not allowed due to the building permit. Volunteer Vanessa Houk said volunteers will bring board games and maybe show movies. To find out when the shelters are available, the public can check the Ashland Tidings online, the bulletin board on the Plaza and the wooden post in front of Pioneer Hall. Ashland City Council will discuss increasing the required temperature to trigger opening of an extreme weather warming center from 20 degrees to 32 at its study session starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers, 1175 E. Main St.
