Water line extension to Erickson Air-Crane under way Mar 07, 1998 12:00 AM A A CENTRAL POINT -- Construction now under way along Highway 99 will complete the final stretch of pipe which will reach from the city limits at Scenic Avenue to Erickson Air-Crane. City Administrator Jim Bennett says the $500,000 project should be completed within a month. A portion of the pipe from the new Oregon State Police headquarters on Highway 99 to Scenic Avenue was completed in September. The 12-inch pipeline will carry water 1.5 miles to the heavy-lift helicopter business. Without that water, the company had threatened to relocate because of poor well-water quality at the site. The project, first proposed six years ago, was delayed in part because of a Medford Water Commission policy that blocked participating cities from extending service outside their city limits. Erickson contributed $100,000 toward the project, which paid for the construction of a chlorination station at the end of the line. The remaining funding comes from a combination of state loans and grants to the city, Bennett says.
