Ashland rolls over Marshfield ASHLAND � Bill Rowe provided the long ball and junior pitcher Ryan Decker tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener as Ashland defeated Marshfield in a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday. The Grizzlies (7-3) totaled 25 hits and only committed one error en route to 6-0 and 15-2 victories over the Pirates. Rowe homered in each game to give the junior four on the season. In the first game, he was 3-for-3 with five RBIs. He added a three-run homer in Ashland�s nine-run fourth inning in Game 2. "We were patient at the plate and we pounded them," Ashland assistant coach John Schroeder said. "Our defense overall was pretty solid today, and our pitching was also good." Decker struck out nine, and the Pirates� only hit came on Nick Holcomb�s second-inning, two-out single to center. Erin Rouse and Nick Ehlers each contributed three hits in the opener. Titus Weston provided the big bat in the second game with three hits, three RBIs and three runs. Nick Danis added three hits and Decker had two. CRATER 4-12, DEL NORTE, CALIF. 1-4 � At Del Norte, Calif., Kenny Strate and Jared Maddocks continued their torrid hitting as Crater improved to 8-1 in the non-conference games. Strate was 7-for-8 for the day, with five RBIs, three doubles and a triple. He is 14-for-19 in his last five games. Maddocks went 3-for-6 on the day, including 2-for-3 and two RBIs in the second game. He is 14-for-20 in the last five games. In the opener, Crater scored three runs in the third inning. Strate rapped an RBI single, scoring Frank Drake, who had walked. Ryan Gipson�s sacrifice fly scored Craig Mulder, who had singled. Strate scored on Maddocks� ground out. In the second game, the Comets had 13 hits, and Andrew Norum pitched well in relief to get the win. Strate was 4-for-5 and Derek Petersen 3-for-4. Norum worked 5� innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out one and walking none. Crater is host to Eagle Point Tuesday to open Southern Oregon Conference play.
