Friday fire along Savage Creek Road contained quickly By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Sep 03, 2022 12:30 PM A A A wildfire near Savage Creek Road, southwest of Rogue River, was corralled Friday evening by fast-moving ground crews and air support. “Crews on the ground stopped the spread. Really it’s because of them that the fire didn’t spread beyond an acre and a half,” , said Natalie Weber, public information officer for the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest District. The Oregon Department of Forestry sent in a type 3 helicopter and a helitack crew to the fire, and the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest sent a type 1 helicopter. Crews worked hard and fast on the ground to line the fire while air support made bucket drops, Weber said. The fire was reported at 5 p.m. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Oregon State Police troopers and Rogue River police went door to door to notify residents of a Level 2: Be Set evacuation in the area of West Savage Creek Road and Rogue River Highway. The evacuation orders were rescinded at 6 p.m., and the fire was considered knocked down at 7 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
