Pink Weekend aims to 'out' gays, lesbians ASHLAND -- "Come Out and Celebrate" is the theme of Pink Weekend taking place Oct. 8-10. The event is hosted by the Lambda Community Center Association and the Abdill-Ellis Community Center. The public is welcome to attend the regional celebration of "National Coming Out Day," for gays and lesbians. An indoor fair with arts, crafts, entertainment and food will be held a Pioneer Hall and the Ashland Community Center on Winburn Way in Lithia Park. The fair takes place Saturday and Sunday. But the celebration begins Friday. The Rainbow Review kicks off the weekend at 8 Friday evening at the Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Doors open at 7 p.m. The review features a variety of entertainment and a silent auction. Entertainers stepping into the spotlight are Leslie Kendall, Brandy Carson, Kirk Berhardt, the Hamazons and more. Seating is limited for this cabaret-style event. Saturday begins with a "Golf Scramble" at 9:30 a.m. at Medford's Bear Creek Golf Course. Then it's back to Ashland and the Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center, which hosts an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days at 281 Fourth St. Varsity Theater will show two flicks with lesbian and gay themes: "Trick" and "Better Than Chocolate." Two dances are also scheduled Saturday night. Blue Lightning plays at 9 p.m. at the Ashland Armory. David Ybarra will play alternative music beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Abdill-Ellis Center.
