I-5 stabbing victim in fair condition Friday Feb 24, 2017 at 11:11 AM Feb 24, 2017 at 11:11 AM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil Central Point resident Christopher Applegate, 43, was identified today by Oregon State Police as the man who was stabbed along Interstate 5 near Central Point Thursday. The assault prompted a massive search for at least one suspect along I-5 between Central Point and Gold Hill. The stabbing reportedly happened near milepost 34. Applegate is recovering from his injuries at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition, according to hospital spokeswoman Lauren Van Sickle.  Emergency dispatch received a 911 call about the stabbing just before 6 a.m. Thursday. Police from Central Point found Applegate in the 4000 block of Old Upton Road, just off the freeway north of Central Point. OSP conducted a search of I-5 between mileposts 34 and 40, looking for suspects, with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department patrolling nearby Gold Hill. OSP has released no other details about the attack or what led to it. No information on suspect descriptions was available.
