SOU women bounce back with victory at Albertson CALDWELL, Idaho -- When Southern Oregon University needed her the most, Nada Janckovic came through. Southern Oregon was trying to rebound from a Cascade Conference loss to Northwest Nazarene the night before, but the top-ranked Raiders were struggling against Albertson College Saturday. The All-American Janckovic responded by scoring a game-high 26 points as Southern Oregon edged the Coyotes 52-44 at the Albertson Activity Center. "She put us on her back and carried us to the victory," Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett said. While the Raiders were having an off night shooting, Janckovic connected on 6-of-11 shots from the field and was perfect on all 14 free throws. She also grabbed nine rebounds. "They were really playing very aggressive defense on her," said Huyett. "Every time she tried to move, they were hanging on her and the officials were calling the fouls. "Whenever we have the opportunity we're going to try to get the ball to Nada or Denise (Barry). But Denise was having an off night shooting." Stevi Spaulding provided a boost for the Raiders by coming in off the bench and sinking two 3-pointers in the first half to help SOU take a 24-23 lead at the break. "They outrebounded us in the first half," said Huyett. "A big key is this team responds to challenges and I challenged them to get after it on the boards more. In the second half we did a better job." Barry led the Raiders with 11 rebounds as the teams ended with 38 rebounds apiece. "Anytime you shoot 31 percent and win a game you have to feel good," said Huyett. "Good teams find a way to win on the road." Southern Oregon returns to McNeal Pavilion for four straight home games beginning with Evergreen State next Saturday.
