(Jamie Lusch) Forestry crews will conduct a third consecutive day of controlled burning near Ashland Friday, April 9, with smoke levels that officials said will be “highly visible.” The 80-acre burn, conducted by Grayback Forestry and the Lomakatsi Restoration Project, will be conducted 2.5 miles west of downtown Ashland. Forestry crews oversaw similar burns Wednesday and Thursday in the same area. All burns are part of the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project, intended to mitigate wildfire danger in the Ashland Watershed. Smoke may impact the western edge of town, including Ashland Mine Road, Frank Hill Road, Wrights Creek Drive neighborhoods, and at Valley View Drive and Highway 99 near Interstate 5 and exit 19.
