Jenkins spurs Challengers past Crusaders BOYS PREP BASKETBALL CENTRAL POINT -- Don Jenkins turned in one of the most productive performances of the season for Cascade Christian in a 66-56 victory over St. Mary's in a Southern Cascade League playoff game Tuesday at Scenic Middle School. The Challengers junior guard scored a season-high 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made four steals. The point total is the highest of the season for any Cascade player. Jenkins was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and connected on 9 of 13 shots from the field. "He raised up his intensity level," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. "He's an emotional guy. He's our catalyst." St. Mary's led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Challengers opened the second period with a 12-0 run and claimed a 35-27 advantage at intermission. Cascade opened the third quarter with a 12-2 burst to take a commanding 47-29 margin with 4:52 left in the period. The Challengers capitalized on 14 steals, including a team-high six by Joe Moxley. "We were active around the ball and the basket," said Morse. "We did a good job of holding them to one shot." Cascade Christian (16-9) advances to the second round of the SCL playoffs with a Thursday date at Chiloquin. The teams split a pair of SCL regular season games. The winner is guaranteed a state tournament berth and will play a state tournament seeding game against Lost River on Saturday. ST.
