September 19. 2014 5:44PM Escaped gang member arrested in Jackson County Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Marquez Jackson County sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals have arrested a 19-year-old gang member who slipped away from a transitional home in Junction City last month. Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Marquez, 19, of Medford, was arrested during a traffic stop at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff's department reported. Gonzalez-Marquez is a documented Norteño gang member who was involved in a fight that killed a 24-year-old man affiliated with the Sureño gang in September 2009, officials said. He ran away from Haag Home for Boys in Junction City on Aug. 11, just 12 days after arriving at the residential treatment program, said C.J. Drake, deputy communications manager at Oregon Youth Authority. The teen had been committed to the Oregon Youth Authority in December 2009 for his role in the fight that killed Marco Diaz, 24, of Central Point. Gonzalez-Marquez was only 14 at the time of the clash between rival gangs, but, with others, chased down the wounded Diaz, punching and kicking him after he fell to the ground, prosecutors said. At the time of Thursday's traffic stop and arrest, Gonzalez-Marquez had two small baggies of methamphetamine in his pocket.
