Bonanza stymies Knights, stays perfect in District 6 MERLIN � Bonanza scored early in the first half and made the goal stand up in posting a 1-0 District 6 boys soccer victory over North Valley on Tuesday. The victory puts the Antlers on top of the District 6 standings at 3-0, while North Valley drops to 1-2 in league play. "I felt like we controlled the game, but had a hard time creating scoring opportunities,�� said North Valley first-year coach Alex Sandine. "We did a good job passing and controlled the midfield." Sandine conceded Bonanza had more shots on goal. Bonanza scored in the first 15 minutes on a wind-aided corner kick that slipped into the Knights� net. North Valley received strong play from sophomore fullback Luke Hall and senior goalie Lee Manes. "They took some pretty good shots and he (Manes) made a couple of really critical saves," said Sandine. "We just couldn�t produce from the offensive end." ST. MARY�S 8, ROGUE RIVER 1 � At Rogue River, Brian Staver scored three goals and Kawika Victor added two as the Crusaders prevailed in non-league action. St. Mary�s (4-1, 0-1 District 6) also picked up goals from Thatcher Jones, Phillip Jackmuth and Michael Staver as the Crusaders scored eight unanswered goals following Rogue River�s goal three minutes into the game. Zack Rote and Matt Burt each chipped in with assists for St. Mary�s. Class 4A ASHLAND 1, NORTH BEND 0 � At North Bend, sophomore defender Jacob VanAusdall knocked in a left-footed shot from 20 yards out in the 60th minute to lead Ashland to a non-conference victory. The game was played in extremely windy conditions. Noah Shields and Josh Dunn combined for the shutout in goal. The Grizzlies, who evened their record at 3-3-1, had an 18-8 edge in shots on goal and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Ashland boosted its record to 3-3-1 with the victory. Girls KLAMATH UNION 6, MAZAMA 1 � At Klamath Falls, senior Sara Schaaf scored the first three goals of the game to pace Klamath Union to the non-league victory. Schaaf scored in the first, seventh, and ninth minutes to help generate a 5-1 halftime lead. Klamath Union (6-3) only allowed five shots on goal. ROGUE RIVER 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 1 � At Cave Junction, Illinois Valley scored the first goal of the game, but that would be its last as Rogue River scored three unanswered goals for a non-conference victory. With the score 1-1 at halftime Rachel Hinze scored on a corner kick five minutes and 15 seconds into the second half. Twelve seconds later Hinze drove the ball just past midfield and scored her second goal of the game.
