Ashland Ski Area Manager Hiram Towle is headed to Montana to run another, but larger, non-profit ski area. Towle announced today that he will be the new managers of the Bridger Bowl Ski Area near Bozeman, MT. Towle announced is departure Thursday morning in what he said was his final “Hiram on the Hill” post on Facebook. Towle did not immediately return a telephone call for comment. Curt Burrill, president of the board that oversees the Mt. Ashland Ski Area, also was not immediately available for comment. Bridger Bowl covers about 2,000 acres and includes eight chairlifts, four lodges and is the benefactor of an average of 350 inches of snow annually, according to its website. At Mt. Ashland, Towle has struggled with a dearth of snow which, in recent years, has delayed the start of the ski season and shrunk skiing days on the mountain 40 minutes from Medford. Despite the snow struggles, the ski area’s annual pass sales grew and it has developed a positive cash reserves.
