Mavericks finish in deadlock with Salem EUGENE - Jeff Adams led North Medford with two hits and one RBI and Russ Vandell added two hits as the Mavericks tied North Salem at the 12-team Best of the West baseball tournament Saturday at Swede Johnson Stadium. The game was called after seven innings because of a time limit. The Mavericks are 1-2-1 in their six-team pool and plays the Washington Baseball System at 8 a.m. today in its final pool game. The Mavericks are assured of a playoff game Sunday, but their seeding will be determined by today's outcome. Thursday against the Evergreen Giants, the Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 victory. Brett Timmerman began the comeback for North with a lead-off home run. Manny Alegria followed with a triple and Chris Brewington walked. Alegria scored on a wild pitch. After a walk and hit batter to load the bases, Brewington scored the winning run on Jimmy Ulrey's sacrifice fly. North Medford (9-12-2) had four players with two hits apiece - Ulrey, Adams, Alegria and Jermiah Frey.
