Mail Tribune 100, March 7, 1922 By Alissa Corman Mar 07, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago March 7, 1922 MERCHANTS TO DEMAND RELIEF AUTO PARKING The members of the Retail Merchants Bureau decided at their meeting last evening that they would appear before the common council in a body with the committee they appointed some time ago to ask for the adoption of a traffic regulation for the business district. The congested condition of the streets due to unregulated parking has materially interfered with the convenience of the buying public and especially those from the rural districts. No unreasonable parking rules will be asked for, but the merchants feel that a better means of regulation can be adopted than the do-as-you-please system now in force. The next meeting, April third, will be the last of a series of eight dinner meetings for which tickets were sold and the bureau unanimously voted to sell another series for eight dinner meetings, which will be held monthly, except that no meetings will be held during July, August and September. The bureau endorsed a directory of business institutions to finance the high school annual in preference to display advertising. Regulations adopted as to what merchants should support and what advertising mediums are condemned were ordered printed for distribution. TWO CHEVROLET CARS STOLEN Two cars stolen was the crime record of last night in Medford. No clues were left behind and hence no arrests were made. The Chevrolet car of John Mace was taken from the business section last night while Mr. Mace was at the Page theater, and was found this forenoon where it has been abandoned by the thieves in the mud and chapparel between Riverside and Central avenues, after they had removed its top and carried it away with them. It was also reported to the police that Chevrolet car No. 23375 was stolen here last night. The police wired Eugene, Roseburg and Dunsmuir to be on the lookout for it. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
