Crusaders gain revenge with 3-0 District 6 win over pesky Hornets It was payback time for the St. Mary's High boys soccer team on Tuesday. One week after losing to Henley in a shootout, the Crusaders got their revenge with a 3-0 District 6 victory at St. Mary's School. Freshman midfielder Duncan MacDiarmid scored 13 minutes into the match and senior striker Matt Burt added two more goals as St. Mary's ran its District 6 record to 7-3. "The kids really executed well today, and they showed a lot of confidence," St. Mary's coach Joel Benson said. "We kept the pressure on them the whole way." Burt's first goal came in the 25th minute on a cross from Daniel Pires. His final goal came in the 47th minute, with Pires again providing the assist. Burt had a third goal negated by an offside infraction. St. Mary's goalkeeper Greg Gradwell posted his fifth shutout. Other Crusaders who played well defensively included senior stopper Joel Frank and outside fullbacks Ryan Burt, a sophomore, and Matt Bladeck, a freshman. "Frank headed balls upfield the whole match," Benson said. St. Mary's plays host to defending Class 3A state champion Hidden Valley at 2 p.m. Thursday.
