Since You Asked: Medford truck route only a suggestion Monday Jan 2, 2017 at 12:01 AM I pick up my mail on Central Avenue where that "Truck Route" sign is posted. I see a lot of 18-wheelers continue to use Central Avenue instead of using the Truck Route.  Don't we enforce that? — No legible name given, via dropped-off note   The sign you're talking about at the corner of Central Avenue and Fourth Street is there as a suggestion for truck drivers so they can avoid downtown traffic, according to Medford Public Works Director Cory Crebbin. "It is not a legal requirement," Crebbin said. Those who haven't driven a big rig may have missed the signs directing trucks to turn right on Fourth and south onto Front Street before getting back on Central at 10th Street.   The signs you mention are green and white, which refer to recommendations. You may recall from driver's education class that signs in black and white — "Speed Limit" for example — signify requirements. Violating official truck routes (read: in black and white) is a Class B violation in the state, according to Medford police Lt. Kerry Curtis. It's easily defensible, however, as long as the commercial driver can prove he or she could not reach the destination without traveling on a prohibited street.
