PREP ROUNDUP Pins pave way for IV wrestlers CAVE JUNCTION -- Josh Scott got the Illinois Valley wrestling team off to a good start with a 17-2 technical fall victory over Keith Pedrick and the Cougars went on to a 41-34 Skyline Conference victory over the Mustangs on Tuesday night. Jesse Camp (135), Ryan Miller (140), Evan Middleton (145) and two-time defending Class 3A state champion Jed Pennell (171) all posted falls for Illinois Valley. Hidden Valley got a top-notch performance from 130-pound Pete Mengershausen, who registered a 14-4 victory over Brandon Ferris to run his Skyline record to 3-0. Girls Basketball BRIGHTON ACADEMY 57, NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN 38 --At Grants Pass, Hannah Smyth scored eight of her 17 points in the first quarter, leading Brighton Academy to a fast start en route to a Skyline A League girls basketball victory over New Hope Christian at South Middle School. Elena Warner added 16 points for the Lions, who improved to 2-3 in league play and 5-9 overall. Smyth, Warner and Shannon Silva grabbed 15 rebounds apiece for the Lions.
