Drug Take Back Day event coming to Central Point Saturday Thursday Apr 27, 2017 at 9:35 AM Apr 27, 2017 at 9:35 AM The Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will collect unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the sheriff's department headquarters, 5179 Crater Lake Highway, Central Point. The event is free and anonymous, "no questions asked," according to a news release. Only pills and patches will be accepted; liquids and needles will not be. In the 12 previous Take Back events, held nationwide at thousands of designated sites, the DEA reports it has collected more than 3,500 tons of pills. At a similar event last October alone, sites collected more than 366 tons. The event is meant to reduce the rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S., as unneeded medicines that languish in cabinets are more likely to be misused.
