SOC roundup Panthers claw into tie for third in SOC ROSEBURG -- South Medford's girls basketball went in search of redemption Friday night. The Panthers earned that and a little more against Roseburg as they took advantage of Indian miscues down the stretch to gain a 52-50 Southern Oregon Conference victory. Roseburg connected on only 3 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter. Heather Fossen scored 12 points and Ellena Flood added nine for South Medford, but none were as big as the 3-for-4 effort by the duo from the charity stripe to ice the win. "We just came down in the clutch and hit our shots," South coach Andrea Wegner said. "I was very pleased with our effort. That was a huge win for us." The win helped South Medford (11-7) move into a tie for third in the SOC standings at 5-4 with Roseburg and Klamath Union. With starter Nicole Munoz sidelined due to injury and Kellie Thomas on the bench most of the second half in foul trouble, the Panthers regrouped behind a solid team effort. Emily Perttu had 10 points, Lynn Wooton added 12 rebounds and six points and Tiffany Mason had five points to lift the Panthers. Despite the foul trouble, Thomas scored seven points, while Fossen added six rebounds and four steals.
