The Pirates scored the game’s first goal with only five minutes left in regulation, only to see the Hornets tie it three minutes later and force overtime. After a scoreless overtime, Phoenix won a shootout, 4-2, to register a 2-1 match victory and remain unbeaten in league. The Pirates are 7-1, 5-0 in the Skyline. Henley is 5-1-2 and 4-1. “It was truly a clash of the titans,” said Pirates coach Dennis Flenner. “It could have gone either way. We did really well in the shootout, which was nice.” Rosendo Flores-Juarez, who assisted on Phoenix’s regulation goal, punched in the deciding shootout kick. Prior to that, goalkeeper Geovanni Cook made an outstanding stop on one of the Hornet attempts. Before overtime, Phoenix’s Fernando Rodriguez scored from 6 yards out in the 75th minute. Henley’s Jared Carpenter converted a penalty kick in the 78th. Girls Soccer HENLEY 5, PHOENIX 0: At Talent, Phoenix fell behind 3-0 at the half and dropped to 1-6-1 overall and 0-5 in the Skyline Conference.
