April 21, 1941, the fourth of five children. His parents were Russell Francis Yockey and Clara Myrtle (Pierson) Yockey. At the age of two, he moved to Eugene, Ore. with his family, attending schools there. He graduated from South Eugene High School in 1959. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an Eagle Scout. On his 17th birthday, along with three friends, he joined the U.S. Navy, going to boot camp during the summer before his senior year. As soon as he graduated from high school, he was sent to Mazatlan, Mexico, where he received more training prior to being sent overseas. Most of his duty was in the Formosa Strait, on the destroyer escort USS Cushing. Following his honorable discharge and having recuperated from a serious car wreck, Tim enrolled at Southern Oregon College in the spring of 1962. The first week there, he met Dottie Bromley, who two years later would become his wife. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family July 10, 2014. Tim graduated from SOC in 1967 and took a couple of detours on his way to finding his passion and lifetime profession as a stained glass artist. He studied under master craftsmen in Portland before striking out on his own. In 1976 the family, which included sons Daren and Dal, returned to Ashland where their Canterbury Stained Glass Company was born. Over the years Tim created windows, lamps, and domes for many residences and businesses. He also restored antique windows in a large number of churches throughout the Rogue Valley and other areas. He never did “retire,” keeping his hand in the family business with his son, Dal taking it over after 25 years working at his side. Tim loved the Oregon Coast, fishing, camping, cross-country skiing, river rafting, and mushroom hunting. One of his favorite stories was sharing his experience of rafting on the Snake River and how it REALLY got its name! Tim passed away in Ashland April 26, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Jay. He is survived by his wife, Dottie; sons, Daren and Dal; and grandchildren, Brianna Love and Quinn, Nathan, and Blake Yockey. Other survivors are brother, Kent Yockey of Edmonds, Wash.; sisters, Lois Jones of Bend and Jill Garrow, Vancouver, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Skylark Memory Care as well as Ashland Hospice, particularly Brenda, for their compassion and loving support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Hospice, Jefferson Public Radio, or Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS). A celebration of life will be held later.
