To curb vandalism, burglary and trespassing at the Crater High School and Scenic Middle School, the district is eyeing a video camera system that would monitor activity outside of the two campuses. Superintendent Candy Manary said if the policy is adopted, the district won’t install any video equipment for several months. The school board today is only voting on a policy outlining parent and student notification, camera placement and procedures to follow if illegal activity is recorded, she added. The district’s proposed policy follows state and federal video surveillance guidelines, including privacy rights. "We have a lot of work to do. This is step one," said Manary. "The next step, if the board adopts this, is to sit down and decide when and how we’re going to do it." The district — which has used video cameras on its busses for several years — plans to work with Central Point police and city officials to select equipment and secure resources to pay for the items. No district funds have been set aside. The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Transportation Center, 1396 Antelope Road, White City.
