Webster wins title in Reno RENO, Nev. Entering the season ranked as the nations top senior wrestler in your division may be too much pressure for some, but it certainly hasnt been for Craters Shane Webster. The two-time state champion racked up yet another piece of hardware to an already overflowing trophy case with his championship effort Friday at the prestigious Reno Tournament of Champions. Webster, who won a Reno TOC title last year at 160 pounds, cruised to another championship with a 17-4 major decision over Ryan Halsey of Rancho, Calif., in the 171-pound division. Buoyed by Websters title and a fourth-place effort by heavyweight Ben Tibbetts, Crater finished 14th in the team standings. Calvary Chapel (Calif.) edged Broken Arrow (Okla.) for the team title 209-204.5 in a duel that came down to the final match of the tournament. Broken Arrows Neil Phillips had a chance to put his team on top but the heavyweight was pinned by Chris Finn of Westmoore, Okla., in a rematch of last years title match. Webster earned a fall in 1:28 over Shane Hale of St. John Bosco (Calif.) in the first round of the championship bracket. The Crater senior added a fall over Matt Peters of Green River (Wyo.) in the second round at 2:29 and was awarded an injury default victory in the third round. Webster secured his spot in the finals with a pin over Matt Coonfield of Anderson, Calif., at 1:31 of their quarterfinal and an 11-3 decision over Matt Steel of Tulsa, Okla., in their semifinal. Tibbetts had another strong showing for the Comets, storming through the heavyweight division before being sidetracked in the semifinals and ultimately dropping his third-place match. Tibbetts took the defending champion Finn to the limit in a 3-1 semifinal loss. Nick McLean took advantage of Tibbetts grueling semifinal and earned a pin over Tibbetts at 1:39 of their third-place duel. Prior to the that, Tibbetts had been an unstoppable force for Crater with a 12-1 decision in the first round over Adam Cornwell of Bakersfield, Calif., and a fall at 3:22 over George Bergin of Wooster, Nev., in the second round. Tibbetts added a pin at 5:22 over Emanuel Jackson of Hanford West (Calif.) in the third round and pinned Jacob Hallmark of Clovis, Calif., at 5:40 in their quarterfinal. Also posting victories for Crater were Cody Ponder at 103, Nate Gipson at 112, Brandon Anders at 130, Bob Pool at 145, Rudy Ramirez at 152 and Justin Samples at 189.
