I was glad to see the California murder suspect was spotted in the Grants Pass area and pursued by law enforcement. During his escape attempt, he crashed into another vehicle. The suspect engaged in fire with law enforcement. I was disturbed to see the names of the officers involved in the shooting ID'ed by name. Is that a common practice? I would think that information could pose serious threats of harm to the parties named. Discovered I may have it when the cross hairs of my golf range finder did not appear to be straight. I was aware of the symptoms as my mother had a severe case. Got a quick appointment at Siskiyou Eye Center for evaluation and referred the same day to Retina Care Center in Medford for further evaluation and initial treatment. Was told early treatment is critical. Very professional staff at both locations. We are blessed in Southern Oregon with the best eye doctors in the country. Learned there is no current cure but when ARMD is discovered early, as in my case, there is effective treatment and progression can be delayed. One of the initial tests for ARMD is the Amsler Grid Eye Test. Google it and test yourself and don’t forget to have an annual checkup with your optometrist. Don’t see less! See more! Bill Seymour Ashland What's behind the flag To Mr. Ron Smith, you need to read the history of the Confederate flag you are referring to and the statements of the one who designed that flag. Mary Lewis Medford Government's spending spree Imagine a family (government) loose in the mall with a credit card and that has been maxed out (as has been their pattern). But this family (government) has demanded that their friends (taxpayers) pay for their extraneous spending. They demand and receive loans from their friends (taxpayers), who then must borrow money to be deposited into the family's (government's) account. The friends (taxpayers) are forced to borrow more and more to feed and clothe their own family, going deeper and deeper into debt (national). In the friends' (taxpayers') shopping cart you find many items have been forsaken, such as retirement savings, college funds, etc. because they have been compelled by the family (government) to continue funding them. The family's (government's) debt must be passed on to their children, because the pattern has been going on too long and it will apparently never stop. Dale Herrmann Eagle Point A Food Project record Here’s some good news: Food Project donors in Jackson County set a record for our June food collection. On June 13, they filled their Green Bags with 62,580 pounds of food, the equivalent of over 50,000 meals for hungry neighbors! This included 5,150 pounds by the Eagle Point Food Project, 3,620 by the Phoenix Food Project, 3,310 by the Talent Food Project, 23,400 by the Ashland Food Project and 27,100 by the Medford Food Project (which includes Central Point and Jacksonville). Eighteen local food pantries received the food.
