Wyden's in town today Jan 09, 2008 12:00 AM A A U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden is in Medford this morning for a round-table discussion about forest health. The session begins at 10 a.m. in the Jackson Room of the county courthouse, 10 S. Oakdale. It's open to the public. Representatives of federal forest agencies, the timber industry, government and community leaders, environmental groups, Indian tribes, recreational users and others are encouraged to participate, said the Oregon Democrat, who organized the meeting. "The purpose of this round-table discussion is to hear expert opinions about the issue of forest restoration and efforts to reduce the amount of hazardous fuels in the forests of Southern Oregon," Wyden said in a prepared statement. "I believe the health of our forests, the dangers posed by catastrophic fires and the opportunity to create family-wage jobs in our mills are issues critical to the survival of our forests, our rural communities and our economy."
