Ashland holds off South in volleyball South Medford's volleyball team put up an early fight, but it was Ashland who finally gained the upper-hand Thursday in Southern Oregon Conference action. The Panthers took early leads in both games, but the talented Grizzlies rallied impressively from each deficit to sweep the match, 15-6, 15-6, at South Medford High. Ashland was led by Amy Williams with eight digs, while Loriana Berman, Rachel Karlin and Williams all had five kills. Chelsea Morgan led the Grizzlies in assists with 17, while Berman had three service aces to lead Ashland (2-0 SOC). Crystal Peterson led South Medford with four kills and Lynn Wooton added three as the Panthers dropped to 1-1 overall and in SOC play. CRATER 15-15, EAGLE POINT 5-4 -- At Central Point, after being thumped by Eagle Point earlier this season in a jamboree, the Comets (1-1) returned the favor in gaining their first Southern Oregon Conference win in two matches this season. Jody McLeod had eight kills and three blocks to pace Crater, while Janell Sapienza added six kills, four digs and nine service points. Maggie Dunlap had 10 service points and Crystal Galedrige chipped in four kills and six digs. Eagle Point dropped to 0-2 in SOC play. KLAMATH UNION 15-15, GRANTS PASS 11-0 --At Klamath Falls, Jen Brennan had 31 assists and Kaylene Munson contributed 16 kills as the Pelicans blitzed the Cavers. Kristina Matchett had 15 kills for Klamath and Kyle Gray finished with six. The Pelicans improved to 2-0 in Southern Oregon Conference play and 5-1 overall. ROSEBURG 13-15-15, NORTH MEDFORD 15-10-7 -- At Roseburg, middle blockers Shannon Burmeister and Kari Gerretson throttled the North Medford attack with strong net play, while Roseburg setter Nicci Jannelli provided an offensive boost as the Indians rallied from a one-game deficit. Jill Carrigan sparked North's front-court effort along with Carol Hwang and Kindra Mitchell. Roseburg and North Medford each moved to 1-1 in the SOC.
