First came the loss of key players to injury, then came the loss of the game for the front-running Pirates. Rogue River (8-9, 5-7 Skyline) scored five runs in the seventh inning to cement a 7-0 victory. Phoenix’s (11-7, 9-3 Skyline) lead over second-place Henley (9-4) shrank to one-half game. Pirates starter Taylor Barrett, who pitched a no-hitter her previous outing, faced only two batters before leaving with a sore arm. Later, Phoenix’s Terra Fry injured a finger when she was hit with a pitch while swinging. Advertisement Pirates coach Molly Pendergast was uncertain of the extent of the injuries Tuesday night. Rogue River tallied once each in the first and fourth innings, and pitcher Karly Lusk worked out of trouble several times to make the runs stand up. Phoenix loaded the bases in the third and fourth innings and had runners at third and second in the fifth. "It was a close game all the way," said Chieftains assistant coach Steve Lea. "It doesn’t sound like it from the score, but anything could have happened right up until the end. Then we had a good inning and shut them down in the bottom of the seventh." In the top of the seventh, Rogue River’s Kaitlin Hoffman had an RBI double and Michelle Krein a run-scoring single. Krein and Hoffman each had two hits, as did Shonda George and Jaclyn Unruh for Phoenix. Lusk allowed six hits, struck out seven and didn’t walk anyone. Henley’s first run scored on an error, then after one out, the tying and winning runs crossed the plate because of two errors on one play. North Valley (6-12, 5-9 Skyline) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Sarah Ruatta walked with one out, stole second and scored on Kellye DePorte’s double. Shawlena Haga opened the fifth with a double and Shea Miller delivered a two-out RBI single for the Knights. Henley pitcher Nikki Hargrave (6-8) struck out 10 in the complete-game victory.
