Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 14, 2005 Police seek suspect in drive-by shooting incident By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune Police are looking for a man who shot at a group of teenagers Saturday night on Orange Street, then sped off in a pick-up truck. A Medford teenager was grazed by a bullet in the back of his head, Medford police Sgt. Chad Teresi said. The teen was treated at Providence Medical Center for minor injuries and released. The incident occurred at 6:25 p.m. and began as a verbal dispute between a group of teenagers at the first block of Orange Street and the residents of a home across an alley on Peach Street, Teresi said. "The argument ended and a short time later a vehicle appeared in the alley and the suspect fired several shots at the juveniles," Teresi said. Advertisement The residents of the Orange Street house were on top of their roof when the shooting occurred, Teresi said. A woman who lives across the street was standing in her yard when the shooting started. "I heard fire or six shots and saw five kids on the roof jump in an upstairs window," she said. Serena Cagle, 26, and Jim Patterson, 29, were two blocks away on Ivy Street when they heard shots ring out. "A guy down the street told us he saw a burgundy truck drive by and shoot," Paterson said. Police interviewed around 10 people who were at the residence at the time of the shooting. Neighbors said the house is a problem spot on the block. Teresi described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s. The pick-up is described as either maroon or red. Medford’s last drive-by shooting occurred in April of 2004 at the intersection of Palm Street and Rose Avenue. An investigation into Saturday’s shooting continues. Anyone with information is asked to call Medford police at (541) 770-4783. Reach reporting intern Chris Conrad at 776-4471.
