Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 14, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 14, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Aug. 14, 1915 REFUSE TO PERMIT J'VILLE EXPRESS TO CLOSE QUARTERS To a request to close the Wells Fargo office at Jacksonville, made by the company, the state public service commission has replied as follows: "Referring again to your favor of June 17th, requesting that Wells Fargo & Company be permitted to close their office at Jacksonville, we beg to advise that this matter has had the attention of the Commission and we are opposed to granting your request. "Jacksonville is the county seat of Jackson county, and one of the oldest towns in the state; it was one of the first towns in which Wells Fargo Co. established an office and we can see no reason why this office should be closed at this time. "The citizens of Jacksonville are opposed to granting your request and even though the receipts of the office might not pay operating expenses, we are still of the opinion that the office should be maintained. The system as a whole is undoubtedly paying, and we can see no good reason why some one unit, which may not pay its full quota of revenue, should be closed and the public suffer serious inconvenience thereby." GOLD HILL BUILD $1,000 OPEN AIR DANCE PAVILION GOLD HILL, Aug. 12 — Workmen are engaged in the construction of Gold Hill's $1,000 open-air dancing pavilion and entertainment hall. The structure will be completed in ten days. The pavilion is being built under the big white oaks of the Espee company's Third Avenue property, a site secured by lease. The dancing floor and hall will be the largest out-of-door temple to the "light fantastic" in the state, with the exception of Portland. No expense or effort will be neglected to give it an ideal floor for dancing. The structure will be roofed, and provided with upward swinging side-walls. Though financed by Gold Hill business men, it is understood that the property will be controlled, and eventually owned, by the Greater Gold Hill club. Gold Hill is rapidly rounding up a reputation as the "play ground of Southern Oregon." The large pleasure pavilion is ambition's answer to the soft impeachment. Present plans are for its opening with the first Pavilion Dance on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 21.
