Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and No. 4 responded to the fire in the 100 block of Highway 234 at 12:52 a.m., according to District 4 Capt. Rick Lowe. “It was fully involved when we arrived. It’s basically a total loss,” Lowe said. Lowe said the shop was 24 by 70 feet and contained tools and equipment in addition to the boats and vehicles. Lowe said the fire caused $103,000 in damage to the contents but he didn't have an estimate for the building itself. District 4 firefighters responded with an engine and a tender and District 3 responded with two engines and a tender. An estimated 14 firefighters fought the flames, Lowe said. A house and a barn were nearby, but the fire did not spread to either structure. No one was injured. Crews left the scene about four hours later. Lowe said the cause of the fire was electrical, and the point of ignition was where overhead wires entered into the building's electrical system. "With the windstorm it was rubbing those wires and shorted out," Lowe said.
