Holly Shiree Cicero, 28, was found late Tuesday in a tent near the Alta Lake campsite in the Sky Lakes Wilderness Area. Her body was brought back the next day by searchers on horseback, said Ryan Huntsman, a sergeant with the Klamath County Sheriff’s Department. The campsite was approximately four miles from a trail head, and the terrain was so rough that recovery equipment could be transported only by horseback, Huntsman said. The body was taken to the Jackson County medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. It will be several weeks before final results come back, but an initial exam indicated that Cicero accidentally overdosed on prescription drugs, officials said. Her husband, 28-year-old Nicholas Vittorio Cicero, declined Thursday to comment on his wife’s death or say what type of prescription drugs she was taking. Cicero was camping with family members when she was died, said Terry Larson, a sergeant with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Her husband told police he hiked through the woods for hours before he could get help. He drove to his father’s country store in Butte Falls — which was the nearest town to where the Ciceros were camping, Larson said. Nicholas Cicero reportedly called the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department from Butte Falls. However, Jackson County deputies referred the case to those in Klamath County because Holly Cicero died in their jurisdiction, Larson said. The Sky Lakes Wilderness is just east of the Jackson- Klamath county line. Holly Cicero is from the Eugene area and has no family living in the area other than her husband and 5-year-old daughter.
