Advertisement The sign you refer to is a welcome/gateway sign that lets you know what exciting stuff is coming up on your Highway 199 trip. First on the sign, once you pass through the "redwood curtain" you enter the fabled "Redwood Empire." It’s just an informal name for the region where those giant coast redwood trees grow. Second, on Highway 199 you’ll be passing the turnoff for the Oregon Caves. Third, you’ll be crossing a bridge called the Golden Gate. So to settle your debt, to cross the Golden Gate Bridge you must first cross the Caveman Bridge right behind that sign you refer to. And then you’ve got to drive the better part of a day and endure about 349 burl shops to cross the one and only Golden Gate Bridge on the north edge of San Francisco, via a long jog on Highway 101.
