Rancher Straus elected into Oregon Farm Bureau Hall of Fame Dalton Strauss Friday Jan 27, 2017 at 5:34 PM Jan 27, 2017 at 5:34 PM Dalton Straus, a cattle rancher and member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, was inducted into the Oregon Farm Bureau Hall of Fame during the 84th Oregon Farm Bureau's annual meeting Friday in Salem. Straus is the 30th member to be inducted into the prestigious OFB Hall of Fame, established in 1996. It is the highest honor given by Oregon Farm Bureau. To be eligible, candidates must be nominated by their County Farm Bureau and must have at least 35 years of active involvement in the organization. "For an incredible 46 years, Dalton Straus has been a tireless grassroots leader in Farm Bureau," said OFB President Barry Bushue. "The critical issues of animal health, water and land use have been forever impacted for the benefit of all Oregon farmers and ranchers because of Dalton's passionate, effective advocacy." Straus's resume of leadership in Oregon agriculture speaks for itself, Bushue said, including: 46 years as a Farm Bureau member 25 years on the Jackson County Farm Bureau Board of Directors 24 years on the National Cattlemen's Association Board of Directors 24 years on the Natural Resources Conservation Service State Technical Committee 14 years on the Farm Service Agency State Committee in Oregon, 8 years as chair 12 years as chair of the Oregon Cattlemen's Animal Health & Brand Committee 9 years on the Oregon Beef Council, 5 years as chair 6 years as chair of Governor McCall's Livestock Advisory Committee 4 years as chair of Oregon's Board of Agriculture 3 years serving on the Oregon Farm Bureau Board of Directors Straus's long list of accolades include being named Agriculturalist of the Year by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and Oregon AgLink; induction into the OSU Department of Animal Science Hall of Fame; being named Jackson County Soil & Water Conservation District Conversationalist of the Year; and receiving the Top Hand Awards from both OFB and Jackson County Farm Bureau. Straus also is an Army veteran who served in the military for 35 years, retiring as a full colonel in 1986. "Dalton's experience, foresight, and steady hand have blessed every organization he's been a leader in," said Bushue. "Since 2013, he has been a dedicated, engaged member of the OFB Board of Directors.
